Daily living & independence skills

Daily living & independence skills

Living life on your own terms starts with having the right skills and the confidence to use them. At OdysseyCare, we believe independence isn't about doing everything entirely alone—it's about having the choice and ability to manage your day-to-day life the way you want.

Our Geelong and Melbourne teams provide hands-on, practical mentoring to help you build everyday skills, from cooking a nutritious meal to managing a weekly budget. We break complex tasks down into manageable steps, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

Empowering, practical & person-centred support

Our capacity-building programs are run by compassionate support workers who focus on how you learn best.

Whether you're moving out for the first time or simply want to take on more responsibilities at home, we work alongside you at a pace that feels comfortable.

Our daily living support programs are built to adapt, and they strongly encourage:

  • Building real confidence in managing household routines.
  • Learning practical life skills tailored to your specific goals.
  • Enhancing your decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Fostering independence in personal care and hygiene.
  • Developing strong communication for everyday interactions.
  • Reducing reliance on informal supports over time by building your capacity.

Why choose OdysseyCare

OdysseyCare wasn't born in a boardroom. Leah, our founder, is a mum to four kids—one of whom is an NDIS participant. She got tired of generic, unfeeling services and built the company she spent years wishing she could find to give folks genuine, reliable support at home.

Families and participants stick with us because:

  • The support is paced specifically to how you learn best.
  • We don't just talk about trauma-informed practice. It's baked in.
  • Practical, hands-on learning in your own home or community.
  • Our staff genuinely care about the work they do.
  • We match you carefully with a mentor to ensure the connection clicks.
  • Consistent, high-standard coverage across Geelong and Melbourne.

Frequently asked questions

Not at all. We break things down into small, manageable steps. We focus on one or two goals at a time, moving at a pace that keeps you feeling comfortable and completely in control.

Absolutely. If your goal is to learn how to catch the bus or do the weekly grocery shop, we take the learning out of the house and into the real world so you can practice safely.

Core assistance usually involves a support worker doing tasks for you or with you just to get them done. This capacity-building support focuses heavily on teaching and mentoring you so that you can eventually do these tasks independently.

NDIS funded support

Wondering about funding? These supports usually tap into your NDIS budget depending on your goals.

Typically, these programs fall under:

  • Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living.
  • Capacity Building: Increased Social and Community Participation.
  • Core Supports: Assistance with daily life (when used flexibly for skill-building).

If looking at your plan gives you a headache, don't stress. The team can sort out the service agreements and show you exactly how to make your funding work for your independence goals.
