Community recreation & social groups

Community recreation & social groups

Feeling connected to your community and having a good time with peers is essential for everyday wellbeing. At OdysseyCare, we know that stepping out and meeting new people can sometimes feel daunting.

That's why our Geelong and Melbourne teams facilitate welcoming, inclusive social groups and community recreation activities. We provide the right level of support to help you get out there, try new hobbies, and build meaningful friendships in a safe, judgment-free environment.

Empowering, practical & person-centred support

Our social programs are run by compassionate support workers who understand that everyone engages differently.

Whether you prefer a quiet art class, a competitive game of bowling, or just grabbing a coffee with peers, we tailor our group activities to match your interests and comfort levels.

Our social programs are built to adapt, and they strongly encourage:

  • Building genuine, long-lasting friendships with peers.
  • Gaining confidence in public and group settings.
  • Discovering new hobbies and community events.
  • Practicing social and communication skills naturally.
  • Enhancing physical and emotional wellbeing through recreation.
  • Moving at a pace that respects your sensory and social boundaries.

  • Skill-sharing sessions like group cooking or gardening.
  • Special interest clubs tailored to participant feedback (e.g., gaming, music, or book groups).

Why choose OdysseyCare

OdysseyCare wasn't born in a boardroom. Leah, our founder, is a mum to four kids—one of whom is an NDIS participant. She got tired of generic, unfeeling services and built the company she spent years wishing she could find to give folks real, reliable support to connect with their community.

Families and participants stick with us because:

  • Activities are driven directly by what participants actually want to do.
  • Trauma-informed, respectful care is baked into everything we run.
  • Small, carefully matched groups to ensure everyone feels included.
  • Reliable, friendly staff who genuinely care about the work they do.
  • We provide a safe space to practice social skills without pressure.
  • Consistent, high-standard coverage across Geelong and Melbourne.

Frequently asked questions

Not at all. You have total choice and control over which groups and outings you join. If an activity isn't for you, there's zero pressure to attend.

We keep our groups small and manageable, usually between 2 to 4 participants per support worker. This ensures everyone gets the attention, support, and space they need to feel comfortable.

Yes. We can arrange supported transport to and from the activities to ensure you can attend safely and confidently, without having to stress about the logistics.

NDIS funded support

Wondering about funding? These supports usually tap into your NDIS budget depending on your goals.

Typically, these programs fall under:

  • Capacity Building: Increased Social and Community Participation.
  • Core Supports: Assistance with social, economic and community participation.

If looking at your plan gives you a headache, don't stress. The team can sort out the service agreements and show you exactly how to make your funding work for your social goals.
